POSTAL VOTE
All persons appointed on election duty who are not able to cast their vote at the polling statin where they are enrolled as a voter are entitled to the facility of either an Eection Duty Certificate(EDC) or a postal ballot. In case they re put on election duty in the same constituency in which they are enrolled as a voter, they are entitled to get an EDC, which entitles them to vote at the polling station where they are on duty. If they are on duty in a constituency other than the constituency where they are enrolled as a voter, they are entitled to a Postal Ballot. These persons include employees in polling parties, Sector Officers, Zonal Officers, Returning Officers, and Assistant Returning Officers, District Elections Officer, Deputy District Elections Officer, employees posted in the offices of DEO, Returning Officer, Control Room and other election related offices, Micro observers, all Police personnel, Home guards, Drivers, Conductors and Cleaners of vehicles engaged for election work etc.. if such persons are not able to cast their vote at the polling station where he or she is enrolled as a voter by reason of being on duty in relation to elections. Polling agents of candidates also fall in the category of voters on election duty for this purpose

An election control room has been set up at the  district Collectorate equipped with 24 x 7 telephone support and internet connection. The Control room has also been assisted with an officer supported by two staff. All complaint petitions / grievances received from the general public are maintained in the control room register.

NATIONAL VOTERS DAY[NVD]

JAN,25, India is celebrating its sixth National Voters Day. Since 2011, NVD is annually celebrated on Jan 25. This year’s theme of NVD is “Inclusive and Qualitative Participation”and slogan is ‘no voter should be left behind’.

The significance of this day is to encourage youngsters, who have reached the age of 18, of the country to participate in the electoral process, by enrolling or registering themselves in electoral rolls and to exercise their franchise.25th January is also the foundation day of the Commission, which came into being on this day in 1950.

NVD also aims to educate and aware voters of their rights and to increase the voter turnout during elections. So, all the eligible voters, actively participate in the democratic revolution and proud to show your inked finger, that is a symbol of your mandate in electing leaders of the country.

25th January is celebrated as National Voter’s Day through out India at around 7 lac locations. Unbelievable but true! On this day, the entire nation reverberates with the festivities of democracy as crores of Indians celebrate their right to vote!

National Voter’s Day aims at increasing the enrolment of voters, especially encourage participation of newly eligible young voter (18-19 yr old) and ensure universal adult franchise. 25th January, the Foundation Day of Election Commission of India (ECI), was declared as the National Voter’s Day in the year 2011. Since then, National Voters Day has been celebrated all over India with gusto and has become more festive with each passing year.

This year marks the sixth celebration of NVD and Election Commission of India started the NVD celebration with ‘Matdata Mahotsav’ (Grand Celebrations of the voter). Matdata Mahotsav, a four-day gala event (14th January to 17th January 2016) was organized at Central Park, Connaught Place – the heart of Delhi. The event showcased an exhibition of best practices from different states of India, other countries & partners of ECI along with a display on preparations & processes carried out by the ECI to bring the ballot to the people. Moreover, music and dance, street plays and games, debates and discussions, quizzes and contests as well as performances by the states and ECI state icons filled the air with celebration.
