This fort was declared as a protected monument by the Department of Archaeology, Government of Tamilnadu in 1977 ADThe Danes constructed fortifications on the coast at Tranquebar. This was the only busy trade centre on the Coromandal coast for the Danes. This fort was a busy trade centre till 1845 AD when the Danes handed over the fort to the English. It was used as a Public Works Department Travellers Bungalow for government servants and colonials till 1977 AD.

To provide a testing solution to the problem of improper beneficiary selection in IAY the GOI have decided for the preparation of a Permanent wait list for each Gram panchayat based on the BPL census 2002. In Nagapattinam District the wait list so prepared has been placed before the Special Grama sabha held on 14.11.2006. This Permanent wait list will be painted at each Gram panchayat for public knowledge. Hence there is a two stage appeal process through which public complaints in respect of their ranking are redressed. The consolidated list is also up linked in the website of our District. 

This will give a clear picture to the BPL persons as to when they would be allotted their house grants.  Once the list is finalized no approval by the Gram Sabha would be necessary.

There are 67405 persons in this permanent wait list in Nagapattinam District. Union wise abstract is furnished first followed by panchayat individual name wise list.
